Pirogue à la dérive : 10 corps découverts au large du Brésil, soupçons sur une origine mauritanienne
A gruesome discovery has been reported by the Canary Islands press: a canoe found 350 nautical miles off the Brazilian coast, with the lifeless bodies of 10 people on board. According to initial reports relayed by the Canarias channel, the boat, filmed by the crew of a sailboat, contained clothing, life jackets, and a can of gasoline, suggesting a desperate attempt to cross.
Pending the necessary verification, the clues seem to point to a Mauritanian canoe, according to reports that have not yet been confirmed. The video, released by the newspaper Canarias, shows the state of the boat and the remains, testifying to the tragedy that unfolded in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
This tragedy has rekindled concerns about the perilous maritime migrations from West Africa. We will return to this issue as soon as more details become available.
