The trial of former Congolese Justice Minister Constant Mutamba ended on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, after a month of intense hearings.
Accused of attempting to embezzle nearly $20 million, the politician faces a heavy sentence. The prosecutor has requested ten years of hard labor, considering the charges to be of "exceptional gravity."
The defense, for its part, pleaded for acquittal, arguing the lack of tangible evidence against the former minister, whose lawyers denounced a procedure motivated by political considerations.
They particularly recall the judicial reforms initiated by Contant Mutamba during his term as well as his critical stance towards certain magistrates, which allegedly earned him enmity within the judicial system.
The verdict is expected on August 27, 2025.
