USA : Ces pays africains qui acceptent d’accueillir les immigrés expulsés par Trump

Nigeria has been crystal clear with Donald Trump. It does not want immigrants deported from the United States on its soil, much less Venezuelan prisoners. "It will be difficult for a country like Nigeria to accept Venezuelan prisoners on its territory. We have enough problems, we can't accept Venezuelans in Nigeria, for God's sake!" the West African country's foreign minister fumed on Channel TV in early July. He added that Washington's threats to restrict visa issuance and increase customs tariffs will not force Abuja to budge.

Rwanda agrees to accept 250 immigrants deported from the US

This discourse is not shared by all African countries. Some have rushed to accept Trump's proposal: South Sudan, Eswatini, Rwanda, and Uganda.

Kigali has agreed to accept 250 immigrants deported from Uncle Sam's country. The agreement was signed in the Rwandan capital, and the Trump administration has already sent an initial list of 10 names to the authorities in the East African country. Kigali justifies its decision to accept the migrants by its "societal values."

"Rwandan families have experienced displacement challenges, and our societal values are based on reintegration and rehabilitation," said government spokeswoman Yolande Makolo. The country has the right to refuse people deported by the Trump administration. Those who are accepted "will receive vocational training, health care, and housing assistance to restart their lives in Rwanda," the spokeswoman added.

Kampala signs agreement on specific terms

Uganda is the latest African country to follow in Rwanda's footsteps. Kampala formally announced yesterday, Thursday, that it had reached an agreement with Washington to accept "third-country nationals who may not be granted asylum in the United States." Diplomatic language for deported immigrants.

These migrants are those who do not want or cannot return home.

The Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement that the agreement with Uncle Sam was "temporary." "People with criminal records and unaccompanied minors will not be accepted," the ministry said.

It should be noted that these agreements concluded between the United States and these African countries are part of a broader American policy led by the Trump Administration aimed at expelling millions of "undocumented immigrants" to third countries.
