Local residents watched helplessly. Some jumped into the water to help the victim.
While swimming in a river in Indonesia's South Sulawesi province, this father lost his life following a crocodile attack. Around 6 p.m., the reptile reportedly bit the man's leg before dragging him underwater as passersby watched helplessly.
In a video filmed on site and then broadcast by the media ViralPress, several people can be seen jumping into the water to try to help this father, in vain.
Body located more than a kilometer away
After several hours of searching, the victim's body was located about a mile and a half from where she was attacked. Her family was able to recover her remains.
According to Le Mag des animaux, the annual number of deaths linked to crocodile attacks is estimated at around 170. "Crocodiles do not actively hunt humans as a food source," the animal magazine points out. Last December, a woman was also killed by a crocodile in Indonesia on a palm plantation.
