A shooting at a Brooklyn, New York, club early Sunday morning left three dead and nine injured, the AP news agency reported. Around 3:30 a.m., four men opened fire after an altercation at the Taste of the City Lounge, located in Crown Heights, a neighborhood in downtown Brooklyn, New York. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the shooting appeared to be linked to gang rivalries.

The injured, aged 19 to 61, were hospitalized but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A 19-year-old man died at the scene, while two other victims, aged 27 and 35, died at the hospital. Investigators found more than 40 9mm and 45mm caliber shell casings, as well as a weapon abandoned on a nearby street.

"Tragic and senseless act of violence"

Mayor Eric Adams announced that specialized crisis management teams had been mobilized to support the victims' loved ones and prevent possible retaliation. He also urged anyone with information to contact the NYPD hotline. "This is a tragic and senseless act of violence," Commissioner Tisch said at a press conference.

This is the second mass shooting in New York City in a matter of weeks, during a year marked by a decline in gun violence. On July 29, a man drove through a Manhattan office tower armed with a rifle, wounding one person and killing four others. A New York City police officer was among the victims.

The two recent shootings only reinforce "why we're doing this work to search our streets for guns," Mayor Eric Adams said. "This is the second incident in a matter of weeks, and we don't want this to become a common pattern of violence in our city," he added.
