Clash Air Sénégal-Carlyle : la grosse révélation du ministre Yankhoba Diémé
The Minister of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport, Yankhoba Diémé, has asked Carlyle Aviation Partners to remove its four aircraft from the AIBD runway. Otherwise, the American company will be forced to pay 1 billion CFA francs per day of delay. According to L'Observateur, which relayed the information, the minister made this revelation during the University of Executives of Pastef, his party, last Thursday.
These are the two A319s and as many A321s that Carlyle had leased (rental with option to purchase) to Air Senegal before taking them back following a dispute following the accumulation of payment arrears by the national airline.
Instead of regaining full ownership of the four aircraft, Carlyle decided to sell the A319s to Air Senegal. The two parties will begin negotiations in September 2024.
After making an initial offer of 17.952 billion CFA francs for the acquisition of the two aircraft, the national airline arrived at 16.269 billion, a proposal accompanied by the return of the two A321s, after deduction of erroneous invoices, security deposits and rents paid since the beginning of 2025 on the A319s.
Looking back at the twists and turns of the negotiations, L'Observateur recalls that Carlyle's latest counter-proposal was set at 30.294 billion. According to the newspaper, this offer takes into account "the contractual conditions for the technical restitution of the aircraft and the payment of an early exit ticket for each A321."
According to the Minister of Transport, the Carlyle executives who first came to him with their initial offer, which he rejected, returned to see him again, expressing their final desire to halve the proposed price. Watch this space.
