Before the Thiès Criminal Court, Mr. Kairé, a metal welder in his thirties, is on trial for attempted rape, statutory rape, and unnatural acts. According to L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, Mr. Kairé was arrested in 2022 as he was about to sexually assault a 13-year-old boy. The daily newspaper of the Future Media Group emphasizes that this was already his third attempt at similar offenses.

The incident that led to his indictment took place at the Pout football field. The same source reports that Mr. Kairé forcibly took young Mr. Ciss to the restroom. Witnesses, alerted by the scene, attempted to interrupt him by throwing stones at the roof. Despite this, Mr. Kairé undressed the child. It was at this precise moment that the victim's mother, alerted, burst in and caught the welder in the act.

Arrested and handed over to the police, the accused was charged and remanded in custody at the Thiès Prison. During his trial, held three years after the events, the defendant confessed everything: "I found the boy alone at the football field. When I led him to the toilet, he refused, but I forced him. I then undressed him to have sexual intercourse with him... I intended to penetrate him, but I was unable to do so."

Surprisingly, Mr. Kairé then attributed his actions to an “evil spirit” and made an unusual request to the court: “I want to be found a wife so that this spirit can free me.”

The Thiès prosecutor, however, emphasized that the welder is a repeat offender, having already been arrested three times for similar offenses, and called for the law to be applied. The defense attorney, for her part, argued that her client was not in full possession of his mental faculties and that he should be in a specialized center rather than in prison.

The case has been adjourned by the judge, and the decision is expected on July 8, 2025, L'Observateur reports.
