Mairie de Dakar : la dernière carte de Barthélémy Dias
Barthélémy Dias, the ousted mayor of Dakar, is fighting to retain his seat after being dismissed by the prefect. He has appealed to the Supreme Court, whose decision is expected on September 18, reports Les Échos.
However, the same source emphasizes that the current regime intends to accelerate the process by convening an extraordinary session of the Municipal Council before August 27, with the aim of electing a new mayor, Abass Fall being expected to replace him.
From a legal perspective, since Barthélémy Dias's appeal does not have suspensive effect, there is nothing legally to prevent him from being replaced before the Court's decision. However, several legal experts believe that, out of "republican elegance," it would have been more prudent to wait for the Supreme Court's opinion, as a possible annulment could create confusion.
Interviewed by Rfm and picked up by Les Échos, lawyer Amath Thiam recalls: "If tomorrow the Supreme Court says that Barthélémy Dias must be restored to his rights, he will be restored to his rights as mayor. It is the judge who arbitrates the electoral game and the disputes that arise from it."
The specialist adds: "The prefect must behave like a gentleman and wait for the Supreme Court to rule first; in a democracy, it is sometimes necessary to harmonize the law with the behavior of the actors to preserve the credibility of the institutions."

Regardez comment la Mairie de Dakar est sale en devanture et en côté venant de l'avenue Faidherbe. Aujourd'hui chantiers interminables depuis 4 ans... Place de l'indépendance non royalement belle plus pelouse qualité Colobane et enfin pas de rues piétonnes à l'instar des grandes villes du Monde, voir villes vélos le dimanche.
