Religion : La commission nationale fixe la date du Gamou (Mawlid)
The National Consultative Commission on the Lunar Crescent (CONACOC), which met this Sunday, decided on the date of the Mawlid celebration. It stated that the lunar crescent has been sighted in several localities across the country.
"Therefore, Monday, August 25, 2025 will be the first day of the lunar month of Rabbial awal or Gammou (Mawlid). Gammou will be celebrated on Thursday, September 4, 2025," the commission informed in a press release signed by Imam El Hadi Oumar Diène.
She said she set the date after gathering all the information, especially from her representatives in the various localities of the country, in agreement with all the religious families and imams of the 14 Regions and 16 Departments of Senegal.
