Sédhiou : Alerte sur les maladies non transmissibles, un CRD appelle à des actions urgentes
In Sédhiou, high blood pressure is at a rate of 27% compared to 28% at the national level. Diabetes is at 3.9% compared to 4.2% at the national level. For tobacco consumption, the region has a rate of 12% while the national level is 6%. Cholesterol levels have reached 34% compared to 26% at the national level.
A rather worrying situation according to the head of the regional executive who chaired yesterday Friday a regional development committee (CRD) on the sharing of the results of the STEPS survey, focused on the surveillance of risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Malick Hanne, head of the NCD control division at the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, emphasizes that the burden is there and therefore, initiatives at the local level are needed, translated into actions to make interventions more effective. He predicts that if the target is made aware from an early age, they will adopt healthier behaviors.
It is in this sense that the members of the CRD recommended the strengthening of community communication to encourage populations to adopt healthier behaviors, early screening to avoid complications in care, strengthening of training and resources for health actors for greater effectiveness in interventions.
