25 km d’extension, gratuité de l’eau dans les sites d’hébergement : La Sen'Eau déroule son plan d’action pour un bon approvisionnement de Tivaouane
The proper supply of water during major religious events is a priority for Sen'Eau. This year, on the occasion of the celebration of the Gamou of Tivaouane, the company responsible for the production and distribution of drinking water spared no expense for a pilgrimage without constraints related to the availability of the precious liquid in quantity and quality.
Thus, taking into account the lessons learned from the previous edition (2024), the Sen'Eau authorities, in synergy with the Gamou organizing committee (Coscas), have rolled out a carefully thought-out action plan.
According to Malick Mbaye, territorial director of Sen'Eau in Thiès, this consists first of strengthening the drinking water supply network. "As usual, Sen'Eau, in collaboration with the Coscas organizing committee, began working since the end of the 2024 edition. We took stock and together defined what needed to be done to make improvements for this 2025 edition. We carried out network reinforcement operations to increase its capacity and extension work, because the city is expanding on all sides," Mr. Mbaye stressed, taking stock of the coverage of Gamou 2025.
In this regard, he reports, 25 km of network extension has been carried out, allowing several households newly installed in the religious city to access the Sen'Eau network, with 1,000 new social connections.
To meet the high demand for drinking water, Sen'Eau has also set up 350 street water points to meet the specific needs expressed by the Dahiras.
In addition, accommodation sites identified with the support of the organizing committee benefit from free accommodation in the period from day D -10 to day D +10, i.e. around twenty days of free accommodation.
To deal with possible pressure drops, due to the high demand estimated at 2,000 m3 per hour on the day of Gamou, a network of tanker trucks is already being mobilized.
