Mac de Thiès : Le calme est revenu
The situation has returned to normal after the violent clashes that occurred between prisoners and prison guards this Saturday afternoon, September 13, 2025, at the Maison d'Arrêt et de Correction (Mac) in Thiès, in the commune of Thiès-Ouest.
The security forces finally managed to control the situation and restore order after an exchange of projectiles which, according to some sources, left people injured on both sides. They were reportedly evacuated to the Ahmadou Sakhir Ndiéguène Regional Hospital.
After the clashes, the inmates then returned to their cells. The causes behind the situation, which ended up fueling the inmates' anger to the point of expressing their fed-upness through this protest, violently repressed by the prison guards, are linked, according to some sources, to the long periods of pre-trial detention, the difficult living conditions behind bars, and the heatwave, which makes the stay even more difficult. Not to mention other grievances concerning the food, which the prison residents consider insufficient and of poor quality.
The exact number of injured and the material damage recorded have not yet been confirmed by any official source. However, witnesses have spoken of the fear that shook the public both inside and around the Mac during the incident.

Les prisonniers sont trop bêtes ou trop peureux pour essayer de s'évader..
En cas de tentative d'évasion d'un ou de plusieurs détenus l'usage des armes est souhaitée
