MAGAL 2025 : 5 MORTS ENREGISTRÉS DANS 75 ACCIDENTS DE LA ROUTE

In less than 48 hours, firefighters carried out 120 interventions around Touba, including 75 traffic accidents. There were 170 victims and five deaths, prompting the authorities to issue an urgent appeal for caution, Seneweb learned from Commander Yatma Dièye, head of the Information and Public Relations Division of the National Fire Brigade. He emphasized that these figures were recorded this Monday, August 11, 2025 at 11:45 a.m.

The emergency services' statement is particularly alarming: of the 120 interventions carried out, 75 involved road traffic accidents. These incidents resulted in a total of 170 victims, including five who lost their lives, demonstrating the seriousness of the security situation on the roads converging towards the religious city.

An urgent call to respect the Highway Code

Faced with this dramatic situation, Commander Yatma Dièye issued an urgent appeal for responsibility from all road users. "This situation calls for greater respect for the rules of the Highway Code," he stressed gravely.

Specific safety instructions for pedestrians

Emergency authorities are paying particular attention to pedestrians, who are numerous on the roads leading to Touba. "Regarding pedestrians, pay attention to road crossing standards," recommends Commander Dièye, emphasizing the vulnerability of this category of road users to vehicles.

Wearing a seat belt is a vital imperative

For drivers and passengers, firefighters emphasize a fundamental safety measure: "Whenever possible, ensure that you wear your seat belt." This recommendation, although seemingly basic, is of paramount importance, given the high number of victims recorded.

The fight against dangerous driving behavior

Emergency authorities have identified several aggravating factors in the occurrence of these accidents: "Avoid speeding, overloading, illegal exits and overtaking," lists Commander Dièye.

A specific message for bikers

Two-wheeled drivers, who are particularly vulnerable, are subject to a special recommendation: "For motorcyclists, make sure you wear your safety helmet."
