Recrudescence des accidents mortels à Ranérou, les populations se révoltent et érigent des barrages sur la RN3

The populations of Naccara and surrounding villages in the commune of Houdallaye (Ranérou department) blocked national road number 3 near Nguét Boki for hours this Thursday to demand speed bumps after yet another accident which resulted in the death of three (03) people, two (02) seriously injured, one of whom, according to a local source, is currently in a coma.

Following the numerous traffic accidents recorded on the RN3 (Linguère-Ourossogui), particularly on the “Dendoudi - Loumbel Lana Works” axis, people from the commune of Houdallaye came out this Thursday, September 11, to demonstrate against the frenzy of accidents which has left them in disarray.

In 2024 alone, at least 37 accidents resulting in 20 fatalities and 181 injuries were recorded in the area. For the first half of this year, 2025, the damage suffered already amounts to 12 deaths and 36 injuries recorded in 18 accidents.

Quite a tragedy, as noted by the protesters who are crying out for an end to the carnage which, in addition to the decimation of livestock and the significant material damage caused, has taken the lives of several people and caused hundreds of injuries. The tally is grim, as more than 55 accidents resulting in 32 victims have been recorded between 2024 and the first half of 2025. "Just this Wednesday, September 10, around 7 p.m., a private vehicle knocked down several people who were peacefully waiting by the side of the road for a transport vehicle, this led to the death of three people," grumbles a protester who calls on the public authorities to take urgent measures.

Dispatched to the scene of the demonstration, which took place a short distance from the area where the accident occurred, the Ranérou gendarmerie used foresight and diplomacy to restore calm to the population after hours of talks. They were thus able to remove the roadblocks and restore traffic flow.

The situation of the increase in accidents in the department of Ranérou constitutes, in the opinion of the president of the departmental council, Amadou Dawa Diallo, "a real obstacle to the peace of mind of the population and seriously hinders the smooth running of socio-economic activities." This, in view of the alarming statistical data which "highlight the seriousness of the losses recorded, especially in human lives, thus marking the urgency of concrete actions in the face of this concern." According to him, it seems appropriate to take measures to limit the risks of accidents.

The population, like local elected officials and even administrative authorities, unanimously advocates the imperative of erecting speed bumps up to standards with traffic signs on the axis to limit the speed of drivers and at the same time stop the carnage on the road. Indeed, Amadou Dawa Diallo, the President of the Departmental Council of Ranérou, also a member of the National Assembly, believes that "the installation of traffic signs indicating speed limits, priorities, dangerous turns and herd crossing areas could limit the damage." According to our information, the Ageroute has already been contacted in this regard. "The competent authorities in this matter have been contacted by the local authorities," informs a local source. However, faced with the increase in accidents, the population is growing impatient and is highlighting the urgency of meeting their demands to save lives.

Beyond the reinforcement of road checks, the authorities also made pleas to Anaser for the awareness of road users and especially breeders.
