Sanctions américaines contre des magistrats de la CPI : L'Union des magistrats sénégalais exprime sa consternation
The Union of Senegalese Magistrates (UMS) is speaking out to defend the independence of international justice. In a statement released on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the organization expressed its deep concern about the retaliatory measures taken by the United States against magistrates of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Solidarity shown with a compatriot
The UMS particularly noted that among the sanctioned magistrates is "our colleague, deputy prosecutor of the said court, Mr. Mame Mandiaye Niang."
A firm position on judicial independence
The UMS explicitly welcomes "the position adopted by the State of Senegal regarding the independence of justice and the right of the court's magistrates to carry out their mission freely and peacefully."
A call for strengthened guarantees
Going further, the union calls for "the need to ensure that all magistrates in general, and those working for international criminal justice in particular, have substantial guarantees of freedom and security for the exercise of their missions without interference."
The statement ultimately reaffirms the UMS's "support and solidarity" with "colleague Mame Mandiaye Niang and the other members of the court in this difficult context for international criminal justice."

Il faut ouvrir des cases jusqu'en suprême Court pour défendre ce magistrat sénégalais.
Il y a une méconnaissance du droit international. Nous avons les ressources. Certains avocats sénégalais doivent défendre leurs compatriotes par patriotisme et ne pas avoir le complexe du pays d'accueil.
