lena Timera
Having just been authorized by FIBA to wear the Senegalese colors, Léna Timéra did not hide her joy and emotion. The Franco-Senegalese winger reacted enthusiastically after the announcement of this decision.
"I'm very happy to be eligible. And I want to thank the Senegalese Basketball Federation, which has been fighting for this all this time," she said during the Lionesses' first training session this Wednesday at Marius Ndiaye Stadium ahead of Afrobasket 2025.
This authorization marks an important step in the player's career, who now hopes to join the group of 12 Lionesses who will represent Senegal at the 2025 Women's Afrobasket, scheduled for Abidjan. "This is just the first battle. Now, there are 23 of us in the pre-selection. And we will have to give everything to be among the twelve who will go to the Afrobasket. I will give it my all to be able to wear the colors of Senegal in Abidjan," she promises.
The news of her eligibility also sparked a wave of support on social media, which didn't leave Léna indifferent. "I didn't expect such a welcome, with such positive messages. I'm very happy; it's really flattering," she said.
The 2025 Women's Afrobasket will be an opportunity for Léna Timéra to prove her worth and contribute to Senegal's quest for another continental title.
