Quart de finale CHAN 2025 : Madagascar met fin au rêve du Kenya
Despite an excellent run in the group stage, where they notably beat Morocco, Kenya's dream of reaching CHAN 2025 ended in the quarter-finals. The host country was eliminated by Madagascar (1-1, 4-3 on penalties).
Spurred on by a large crowd, Kenya had started the match well, opening the scoring early in the second half thanks to Alphonse Omija (46th). But on the hour mark, the Harambee Stars, visibly tired, conceded the equalizer on a penalty converted by Rajafimaro (69th).
After 90 minutes, the score remained level (1-1). After extra time (30 minutes) failed to separate the two teams, the decision finally came down to a penalty shootout. In this exercise, the Malagasy proved more skillful, scoring four penalties against three for their opponents.
This is a magnificent achievement for Madagascar, which has qualified for its first CHAN semi-final. However, for Kenya, the tournament's co-hosts, the elimination at this stage of the competition is a major disappointment.
