Nouha Cissé is adamant: the Lions' strong results in recent years have increased interest in the leadership of Senegalese football. In an interview with Record, the former president of Casa Sports spoke about the slew of candidates for the presidency of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF). In addition to Augustin Senghor, the outgoing president, Abdoulaye Fall, the eventual winner of the election, Mady Touré, Oumar Ndiaye, and Aliou Goloko were also on the starting lineup.
"The football pool has greatly expanded and the need to give it the most appropriate direction possible has led to this shift in applications. […] Senegalese football has emerged somewhat from these cycles of crisis, particularly with the results achieved by the national team," theorizes Nouha Cissé.
The leader believes that "social media has amplified the movement," which, according to him, "has given great enthusiasm to sports fans who love football, specifically for the leadership of the federation." "The five candidacies are an expression of the revival of Senegalese football, of this enthusiasm, and the improvement is a consequence of the performance in international competitions," he insisted.
These good results, notes the former head of Casa Sports, Senegalese football owes to a team put in place by the Normalization Committee, whose mission ended in 2009 with the return to a federation, headed by Augustin Senghor. "A courteous gentleman," says Nouha Cissé. "I remember him, in terms of skills, as a law enthusiast who understands none of the maze of football regulations. But also, his frankness while maintaining discretion in his management."
Regarding the new head of Senegalese football, Nouha Cissé claims "very favorable opinions." "Abdoulaye Fall is a man who has garnered a lot of votes. Which is at least an expression of the great confidence that athletes have in him. And the world around him is very deeply rooted in the management of football, in all areas and across the entire national territory, from the districts to the federation."
He added: "We will all have to unite around [him] to support him because he is taking the reins of football administration in a context where Senegal has already made its mark with the performances we know with the national team, but also with the lower categories in African competitions. It will be a question of doing everything so that this bar, which is at a very high level, can be maintained [and] strengthened."
