Gamou : 550 pompiers déployés à Tivaouane et à Thiénaba
The National Fire Brigade (BNSP) has announced the implementation of a major security operation for Gamou, which will take place from August 31 to September 6, 2025, in Tivaouane and Thiénaba.
In a press release signed by Commander Yatma Dièye, Head of the Information and Public Relations Division, the BNSP details the exceptional measures taken to ensure the security of this major religious event which brings together pilgrims from Senegal, the diaspora and several African countries every year.
A particular context requiring increased vigilance
The 2025 edition is taking place in a context marked by multiple risks identified by the authorities. Organizers have highlighted in particular the dangers associated with road accidents due to high traffic density, the risks of fire linked to the intensive use of kitchens and fuels, as well as health and safety threats.
The situation is also complicated by weather forecasts predicting rainy and stormy conditions during the Gamou period, requiring an increased need for water supplies for populations and pilgrims.
To meet these challenges, the National Fire Brigade mobilized 550 firefighters, 25 officers, 155 non-commissioned officers, and 370 other ranks. It also deployed 93 vehicles, including 14 fire engines, 24 ambulances, eight road rescue vehicles, and nine large-capacity tankers (30,000 liters).
All these teams will carry out several crucial missions, including risk prevention on all sites, emergency assistance to sick and injured people, safety supervision of large kitchens and civil security of assembly areas.
Particular attention will be paid to the medical and security coverage of large mosques, esplanades and places of worship, as well as to supporting public health actions in collaboration with the services of the Ministry of Health.
The system is also structured around two strategic levels: the first focused on the holy cities of Tivaouane and Thiénaba, and the second deployed on the major roads leading to these destinations. A joint operational command post, bringing together representatives of the gendarmerie, the BNSP and the police, will be set up at the Tivaouane prefecture to coordinate all interventions.
