Two twin brothers died electrocuted side by side while trying to retrieve a pigeon that had fallen onto high-voltage power lines using a metal pole.

Giacomo and Francesco Fierloni, both 22 years old, were struck by a powerful electric shock after accidentally touching medium voltage cables with a pole.

One of them reportedly died while desperately trying to save the other.

The tragedy occurred during a hunting activity in a rural area near Magione, Italy, on Tuesday, April 21. Both had gone to a family cabin in the La Goga region to train pointing pigeons, one of their shared passions.

According to investigators, a pigeon had landed on cables carrying approximately 20,000 volts at a height of about 10 meters. To try to get the bird down, one of the twins used a long metal pole, commonly used in hunting.

Although it is unknown which of the two brothers caused the accident, it is believed that he either touched the live cables or that an electric arc occurred at the pole. He was electrocuted instantly.

His brother then rushed to his aid, but was also fatally wounded.

The incident happened in a matter of moments, leaving the two brothers lying side by side in the tall grass at the foot of an embankment.

Their family only realized the seriousness of the situation when the brothers stopped answering the phone.

Earlier in the evening, they had told their father, Giorgio, that they would be home late.

Worried, relatives located their bodies using their cell phones and went to the site. The twins' uncle discovered their bodies near the cabin around midnight.

Emergency services attempted to resuscitate them, but to no avail.

These tragic deaths have deeply affected the local community, where they were highly regarded.

They worked in the family plumbing and heating business and were described by their mayor and former teachers as "genuine and kind" young men with a strong work ethic.

Tributes are pouring in on social media, testifying to their unwavering bond and devotion to their family and their passions.

Their devastated parents said: "They were our strength, our present, and our future. They were born together and they left together."

An investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal accident.
