Russie : 35 ans plus tard, Poutine réhabilite « Félix de fer », le fondateur de la Tchéka, ancêtre du KGB
In the West, he is perceived as the bloodthirsty architect of Stalinist terror. Felix Dzerzhinsky, also known as "Iron Felix," is currently being rehabilitated by the Kremlin.
Yesterday, Wednesday, April 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree imposing the name of this revolutionary on the academy of the FSB, the Russian intelligence service, formerly known as the KGB.
In the document, the Russian leader emphasizes the "exceptional contribution (of the founder of the Cheka) to the security of the State."
The Kremlin chief lends his name to the FSB academy
The Cheka is in fact the precursor to the KGB, which later became the FSB. Felix Dzerzhinsky ruled it with an iron fist. He is accused of mass deportations and executions. On August 22, 1991, a jubilant crowd witnessed the destruction of his statue in Moscow. Thirty-five years later, Putin decided to rehabilitate him by naming the FSB academy after him.
We could even witness, in the coming years, a return of the statue of the Polish aristocrat to Moscow.
Indeed, according to concordant sources, an exact replica of the monument dismantled in 1991 was unveiled in 2023 in the courtyard of the SVR building, the Russian foreign intelligence service.
