In Nigeria, illegal migrants have cause for concern. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced yesterday, Tuesday, that the government would begin cracking down on these illegal immigrants in the country.
"By August 1 , strict measures will be taken against irregular immigrants," the authority said.
We could therefore see expulsions of migrants within five months. Before these deportations take place, Abuja has decided to grant a three-month grace period to the foreigners concerned to regularize their situation.

They will therefore be able, from May 1st, to begin the process of "submitting to the established immigration protocols" in Nigeria.
The minister also warned companies that prevent the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) from carrying out its legitimate functions.
“We agreed that the days when a few companies behave irresponsibly by evading immigration laws are over. We all agree with the private sector that by law, the immigration service has the right to do its job and must discharge its mandate. We will be very strict with any company that avoids or prevents the NIS from fulfilling its legal responsibility,” Tunji-Ojo warned, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
