Mali : La mort du ministre Sadio Camara et de sa seconde épouse confirmée par sa famille
The news has just broken and plunged Bamako into shock. Colonel Sadio Camara, Mali's Minister of Defense and one of the key figures in the junta that has been in power since 2020, was killed in an attack carried out on Saturday by Al-Qaeda's Sahel branch. The tragedy occurred at his residence, confirmed AFP, government and military sources, as well as his own family, on Sunday.
“In the attack on Kati, Minister Sadio Camara was killed, along with his second wife,” a family member said, visibly moved. The extremely violent assault targeted the heart of the transitional security apparatus. A government source confirmed the news, stating: “We have lost a very dear person, the Minister of Defense. He fell on the field of honor.”
Colonel Sadio Camara was considered one of the most influential men in the military regime. His death, which occurred in the military stronghold of Kati, on the outskirts of the capital, marks a major security turning point in the conflict between the Malian state and jihadist groups. This offensive, coordinated by Al-Qaeda's Sahelian branch (JNIM), directly targets one of the architects of Mali's current military strategy.
