Présidentielle 2025 : Laurent Gbagbo affiche son soutien aux manifestants
Three days before the presidential election, former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo granted an interview to journalist Alain Foka. During this highly anticipated interview, the president of the African Peoples' Party – Côte d'Ivoire (PPA-CI) took a clear stance on the wave of protests sweeping several cities across the country in the run-up to the October 25 presidential election.
Asked about the tense political situation and the demonstrations organized by opposition activists and supporters, Laurent Gbagbo did not mince his words:
"I support those who are in the street," he said bluntly.
When the journalist pointed out that this statement could be considered risky, the former head of state responded calmly:
"Yes, but that's my point of view."
And to add, insistently:
“Those who are in the street, I strongly support them.”
For several days, demonstrations have been breaking out in various localities, notably in Yamoussoukro, Gagnoa, Daloa and Abidjan, to denounce what some opposition parties are calling "anti-4th term marches".
Supporters of the PPA-CI and PDCI-RDA are particularly critical of the exclusion of several major political figures, including Laurent Gbagbo himself, from the presidential race.
