Crise scolaire : 20 heures de face-à-face, le Gouvernement et le G7 frôlent enfin l'accord !
After nearly twenty hours of uninterrupted discussions, the Government and the G7 unions have taken a decisive step towards resolving the school crisis. Meeting from 4 p.m. on Monday, April 13th until noon on Tuesday, April 14th, at the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Public Service Reform, the two parties thoroughly examined a long-awaited draft memorandum of understanding.
Following these lengthy consultations, a consensus was reached on the main points included in the document. However, certain sensitive issues have not yet been definitively agreed upon and have been deferred to further discussions.
Among the outstanding issues are the expansion of the scope of Decree No. 2026-65 of January 27, 2026, concerning decision-makers in the education sector, the question of their retirement, and the tax exemption for back pay. These points, considered crucial for the future of the education system, are included in the "Perspectives" section of the draft protocol.
Negotiations will resume on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 10 a.m., still at the ministry's premises, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement.
The meeting was co-chaired by the Minister of Public Service, Olivier Boucal, and his counterpart from Education, Moustapha Guirasy. Around the table, several representatives from various ministries and members of civil society actively participated in the discussions.
In a statement following the discussions, the Government reaffirmed its "firm commitment to finding a positive resolution to the school crisis as quickly as possible," while thousands of students and their families remain in limbo, awaiting a return to normal classes. These developments, though partial, offer a glimpse of a possible de-escalation in a tense social climate.
