Éducation : Le G7 des syndicats d’enseignants lance son 6e plan d’action et durcit le ton
The G7, a coalition of seven major education unions in Senegal, has announced a new action plan to pressure the authorities. Through its sixth action plan, the union coalition is calling on teachers to stage a series of protests that could disrupt the normal operation of schools in the coming days.
In this publicly released action plan, the G7 calls for a boycott of school assessments, teacher training sessions, sports activities, and initial teacher training. This is intended to increase pressure on the government to obtain concrete responses to its demands.
The G7 also calls on school leaders and inspectors to withhold administrative information, a strategy often used by unions to slow down the functioning of the education system.
A mobilization schedule has already been set.
In detail, the action plan includes several days of mobilization:
The culmination of this mobilization is planned for March 16, with a large gathering in front of the Dakar-Plateau Education and Training Inspectorate (IEF), where the unions intend to reaffirm their demands and call for a massive mobilization of teachers.
Increasing pressure on the authorities
Through this new action plan, the G7 seems determined to maintain pressure on the government to satisfy its demands related in particular to working conditions and the management of the education system.
This surge in union activity comes at a time of tense negotiations between teachers' unions and the authorities. If no compromise is reached quickly, the education sector could face further disruptions in the coming weeks.
