ONU : Moussa Faki Mahamat, ex patron de l'UA, apporte un soutien de poids à la candidature de Macky Sall
The debate over who will succeed António Guterres as Secretary-General of the United Nations has taken on a new diplomatic dimension. Moussa Faki Mahamat, former Chairperson of the African Union Commission, has officially endorsed former Senegalese President Macky Sall, describing his candidacy as "timely".
In a statement marking a turning point in the diplomatic campaign, Moussa Faki Mahamat highlighted the statesmanlike qualities of the former Senegalese president. According to him, Macky Sall's experience and "credibility," combined with his "moderation," make him a "solid candidate to lead the Organization at this critical time."
The former head of the AU Commission emphasized that he had worked closely with him for eight years, particularly during Macky Sall's presidency of the African Union. From this collaboration, he noted a first-rate "diplomatic skill" and a "rare ability to build consensus among diverse interests."
Putting Africa back at the center of the multilateral game
Beyond the candidate's personality, Moussa Faki Mahamat sees this candidacy as a strategic lever for the African continent. He believes that Macky Sall's accession to the head of the UN could "strengthen Africa's role in global decision-making."
In a fragmented international context, Moussa Faki's support resonates as a call for "renewed multilateralism." For the former AU leader, the choice of Macky Sall would allow for the opening of "a new chapter focused on peace, stability, and shared prosperity for all."
