"Si j’ai la confiance des États..." : Ce que Macky Sall a dit à la mission permanente de la RDC sur sa candidature
Macky Sall, a candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), is conducting his campaign. He was received at the Permanent Mission of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the United Nations in New York.
Facing Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay and his team, the former President of the Republic of Senegal presented the vision and priorities underpinning his candidacy. But before getting to the heart of the matter, he wanted to commend the achievement of the DRC national team.
“First of all, I want to congratulate the Leopards on their beautiful victory after so many years of waiting. It was felt across the continent, and I hope you will continue to amaze world football at the next World Cup. The DRC really dominated Jamaica,” smiled the candidate, whose speech was captured in a video shared on the mission’s platforms.
Then, the former Senegalese president got to the heart of the matter: "I was recently in Kinshasa to visit my brother and friend, President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, to discuss this candidacy and the support I hope to obtain from the DRC, which is an important country on the continent, not only because of its size, but also because of its historical role and everything that this country has made possible," he told his hosts.
Next, the former head of state will explain why he decided to run for this position. "I wanted this candidacy to bring an African voice to the international community," he said. This is especially important at a time when the world is plunged into a period of crisis and, above all, uncertainty, which is not sparing our countries.
Thus, the former president wants to be able to advocate more strongly for developing countries, including African nations. What the former head of state primarily desires is a win-win partnership. Because, as he says, "Africa, despite all its potential, struggles to realize that potential because access to resources (Editor's note: financial resources) remains very limited, even very difficult."
Regarding the DRC, candidate Macky Sall made promises: "I know that the DRC is facing a crisis due to the presence of external forces. If I have the confidence of the States, addressing this issue will also be among the priorities," he promised.
He assured that the handling of this issue will take into account the sovereignty of the DRC, its territorial integrity and all measures that would be likely to bring peace and tranquility to Africa.
"I have spoken at length about this directly with President Tshisekedi, and I have come to see you, as I do for all member countries of the Security Council," said the former President of the Republic of Senegal before taking leave of Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay and his team.
