Succession à l'ONU : Ndiassane, Thiénaba et les Ndiéguène font bloc derrière Macky Sall
To prepare for upcoming events concerning the launch of its activities as a support committee for President Macky Sall's candidacy for Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), a delegation from the Citizen Convergence visited religious families in Ndiassane, Keur Mame El-Hadji Ndiéguène of Thiès, and Thiénaba on Monday afternoon, April 20, 2026. This organization comprises 1,070 representatives of various nationalities from around the world (Senegalese, Ivorian, Mauritanian, Malian, Burkinabe, Burundian, American, and French).
Former minister Babacar Gaye, who led the delegation, noted that the Citizens' Convergence is currently implementing a program of actions that includes visits to all religious leaders representing the Islamic Ummah in Senegal, as well as to the Church and traditional chiefs. The objective, he said, is to inform them of "our intention to regroup, meet, and unite for a single purpose: to support President Macky Sall in his bid for the position of UN Secretary-General, a process that began almost two months ago."
This is why, Babacar Gaye emphasizes, “we first came to Ndiassane, where we were warmly welcomed by the Grand Khalif of the Khadre brotherhood in Senegal. He delivered a message of support and prayers for our project, but above all, prayers to accompany candidate Macky Sall in his quest for this global body, for the benefit of Senegal, Africa, and all of humanity.” Considering this step “very important,” he thanked the spokesperson for the Akh-Loul Kountiyyou family, Sheikh Khalifa Kounta, as well as all the descendants of the Khalif for their warm welcome.
The delegation then traveled to Thiès to visit the family of Mame Ahmadou Barro Ndiéguène at Keur Mame El-Hadji. “In the absence of the Caliph General, we were welcomed by Serigne Ousseynou Ndiéguène, who is now speaking on behalf of the family. He received us warmly and prayed for President Macky Sall,” noted the head of the delegation. The religious leader recalled the close ties between the Ndiéguène family and the former president. “He assured us that the family will continue to pray for him, while declaring its natural support for this representative of the Ummah and of Senegal.” According to the religious leader, “every Senegalese should emulate this commitment to supporting a son of Africa at the highest levels of global affairs.”
Finally, the delegation was received in Thiénaba by the Caliph General, Serigne Assane Seck. Mr. Gaye noted "a deep friendship and relations rooted in loyalty." The Caliph reiterated his support and blessed the initiative. He also expressed his willingness to act as a mediator between former President Macky Sall and the current Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, to whom he wished "great success," because "his success is also Senegal's success."
In summary, the delegation was delighted with a "fruitful day." This support program will continue in Touba, Tivaouane, Léona Niassène, Médina Baye, Yoff Layène, as well as with the Archbishop of Dakar, in order to "boost the image of President Macky Sall, who is a source of pride for Senegal and Africa."
