Babacar Gueye Diop du Soleil lauréat du Prix William Ponty du journalisme environnemental
Journalist Babacar Gueye Diop, of the national daily newspaper Le Soleil, has been named the winner of the 2026 William Ponty Prize for Environmental Journalism, organized by the Alumni Association of the William Ponty Teacher Training College. In an official statement, the association indicated that it made this decision "with profound admiration" for his work.
The text emphasizes that "in a world where the climate emergency no longer allows for indifference," the journalist, a member of the health and environment department of the national daily newspaper Le Soleil, "distinguishes himself not only by his scientific rigor, but also by his ability to raise awareness." Through his investigations, reports, and analyses, Babacar Gueye Diop is praised for having "highlighted the threats to our environment while promoting local and sustainable solutions."
The authors of the press release also extend to him "their congratulations and encouragement for [his] contribution to promoting a culture of environmental protection and resilience to climate change."
The award will be presented to him on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Kocc Barma Fall amphitheater of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Education and Training (FASTEF), during a panel on the theme: "Agriculture and climate change in the context of food sovereignty".
