Tribunal de Dakar: L’ami d’Azoura Fall relaxé
Serigne Saliou Fall, a friend of Pastef activist Assane Guèye, also known as Azoura Fall, appeared before the Dakar Magistrates' Court this Friday. He was being prosecuted for endangering the lives of others and abandoning a vehicle to a third party without a driver's license. Placed in pretrial detention on March 11, Serigne Saliou Fall was accused of lending his vehicle to Azoura Fall, who had been involved in an accident in the Medina district. Taken to the Dakar prosecutor's office, Azoura Fall was ultimately committed to the Thiaroye psychiatric hospital.
In court, the defendant denied the charges against him. According to him, his friend had taken his car keys without his knowledge. "Azoura is my friend. He comes to my house, but I didn't give him the car. He usually always came with a car. But that day, he didn't have one. I left him in my living room watching television. I went to bed around 11 p.m. Around 3 a.m., he called me, but I couldn't answer because I was asleep. I woke up around 5 a.m. and was told that Azoura had had an accident with my car. I realized that he had taken the keys I had left in the living room," he explained.
The plaintiff, Sounoune Barry, did not appear at the hearing. The public prosecutor requested the application of the criminal law. The defense, represented by lawyers Aziz Diop and Abdy Nar Ndiaye, argued for acquittal, maintaining that their client was not involved in the case in any way. At the conclusion of the proceedings, the court acquitted Serigne Saliou Fall outright.
