With the launch of the 2026–2027 farming season just weeks away, Senegal's Chemical Industries (ICS) are demonstrating their commitment. At their Mbao site, the company opened its doors to the press to show concretely how it is preparing to support Senegalese producers. Activity is already intense in the warehouses and production units. The goal is to make 125,000 tons of fertilizer available—an unprecedented volume—to support farmers across the entire country.

"Every season is a challenge, but this year we have planned further ahead to avoid any shortages," a site manager confided, highlighting the importance of planning in an unstable international context.

With persistent tensions on global markets, notably linked to the crisis in the Middle East, access to raw materials remains uncertain. Yet, ICS assures it has taken the lead. Thanks to a reinforced supply strategy, the company aims to guarantee the availability of NPK fertilizers, which are essential for many staple food crops.

For farmers, this commitment is crucial. In rural areas, the timely availability of fertilizer can make all the difference between a good and a bad harvest. "When inputs arrive late, we lose a lot," testified a producer met on the sidelines of the visit.

But beyond the immediate agricultural needs, ICS is looking further ahead. The company is part of an industrial transformation drive with a 126 billion CFA franc investment program, designed to sustainably increase its production capacity. This includes extending facilities, building new industrial units, and ramping up production. The goal is to reduce dependence on imports and position Senegal as a major player in fertilizer production in West Africa.

Behind these figures lies the entire question of food sovereignty. By ensuring regular access to fertilizer, ICS directly contributes to agricultural productivity and the country's resilience in the face of external crises. In a context where feeding the population remains a strategic challenge, this mobilization stands as a strong signal.

Balancing economic imperatives and national responsibility, ICS thus intends to fully play its role: supporting farmers today while preparing for the agriculture of tomorrow.
