Kosmos se retire, Ousmane Sonko annonce la reprise totale du bloc gazier Yakaar-Teranga
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko announced the conclusion of a major agreement concerning the Yakaar-Teranga gas block.
“Yesterday, April 22, 2026, will remain a historic date for our country. We obtained and signed, without any financial compensation for Senegal, the agreement for the joint withdrawal of Kosmos and Petrosen from the license for the Cayar gas block, known as Yakaar-Teranga. A major victory,” Mr. Sonko rejoiced.
According to him, this withdrawal will be ratified by ministerial decree, and a new license will be granted exclusively to Petrosen for the operation of Yakaar-Teranga.
He explained that the reclamation of this block—the most promising in our sedimentary basin to date—is the culmination of a ten-year struggle and a firm political commitment. He recalled that this deposit, along with the Saint-Louis deposit shared with the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, had been awarded to Frank Timis under conditions deemed opaque during President Macky Sall's administration.
"All our misappropriated assets will be renegotiated and, if necessary, recovered. Others will follow. And the truth with them," he promised.
Ousmane Sonko wanted to congratulate and encourage Birame Souleye Diop, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum, Alioune Gueye, Director General of Petrosen, as well as all their teams for the excellent work accomplished and the perfect alignment with government directives.
