De l’ONU au ministère des affaires étrangères : Découvrez le parcours de Cheikh Niang
A familiar face in Senegalese diplomacy is returning to the forefront. At 68, Cheikh Niang has taken the reins of the Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad. He succeeds Yacine Fall, who is now in charge of the Department of Justice.
Originally from Thiès, Cheikh Niang has a career built on decades of commitment to the state. In 2019, he was elected Chair of the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, which deals with economic and financial matters.
Prior to this, he represented Senegal on several continents. He was Ambassador to Japan between 2014 and 2018, with extensive jurisdiction over Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Singapore. A few years earlier, he served in Washington, with a mission that also covered Central and South America. Between 2010 and 2012, he was posted to South Africa, accredited to ten other countries in the southern region.
His career also followed in the footsteps of the United Nations in New York. Consul General of Senegal from 2006 to 2010, he previously served as Minister Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Senegal. He was also the President of the Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. From 1995 to 2001, he served as Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Republic and headed the Africa Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Fluent in French and English, Cheikh Niang has a strong academic background. A graduate of the École Nationale d'Administration et de Magistrature in Dakar, he earned a DEA in English from Cheikh Anta Diop University. He also holds a Master's degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lancaster University and a Diploma in Interpreting from the University of Westminster, United Kingdom.
Cheikh Niang published on February 20, 2025 the book entitled "Reflections of an African diplomat on the challenges of the continent - The quest for the summits". In this work, the author urges Africa to break the chains that hinder its development, to assert its sovereignty and to take its full place in a changing world. He also invites Africans to reinvent their destiny, by combining memory and ambition, wisdom and audacity, to build a future that lives up to their potential.

Trump est vieux et pourtant il assure plus qu'un jeunot... L'expérience et la sagesse sont d'or, jeune homme.
C. Niang: l'homme qu'il faut à la place qu'il faut. Le seul choix intelligent de ce renamiement.
