Prévention des risques électriques : Senelec sensibilise à l’approche de l’hivernage

As part of the month of prevention of occupational risks in Africa, Senelec organized a walking tour on Saturday, April 25, 2026, focused on the prevention of electrical risks, and the health and safety of professionals and users.

The initiative comes just weeks before the rainy season, a period considered critical for electrical infrastructure. "As the rainy season approaches, there are measures we need to take to secure not only our infrastructure but also to ensure the public feels safe and to raise awareness about the dangers of electricity," stated Mame Fatou Sarr, Senelec's Human Resources Director. Indeed, according to Cheikh Sidath Niang, President of the Senelec Executives Association (ACAS), the public "is not sufficiently aware of the risks associated with using electricity."

However, according to Ms. Diallo, the company systematically takes preventative measures to limit the impact of severe weather. "There are activities carried out at the infrastructure level to ensure the safety of the population, but also to protect our infrastructure, because severe weather can damage it," she explained.

Thus, the organizers of the hike were keen to raise awareness among both the general public and professionals. "We wanted to demonstrate civic engagement by educating the public, but also employers, so that they comply with regulatory and normative requirements," stated Cheikh Sidath Niang, who emphasized the seriousness of electrical accidents. "Accidents are often serious, and most are fatal," he reminded everyone, advocating for a stronger culture of prevention in businesses and households. This mobilization also addresses an internal issue. "The health of our workers is a concern. Actions are being implemented to improve their well-being," indicated Mame Fatou Sarr.

Furthermore, this hike also provided an opportunity for Senelec to raise awareness about the consequences of vandalism targeting electrical installations. "It's very dangerous and can impact the quality of service," warned the human resources director. This observation was shared by the president of ACAS, who mentioned "thefts of cables, angle brackets, and protective conductors," endangering "the lives and safety" of both the perpetrators and the public.

The activity mobilized several actors, including firefighters, police, gendarmerie, and hiking associations.
