Dr Youssouph Tine : trois choses à savoir sur le nouveau directeur de la Santé
This colonel, a medical officer, is a renowned public health specialist with an impressive service record, particularly in Ziguinchor. Based on his CV published by the Ministry of Health, L'Observateur has profiled him. Excerpt.
1. "Public Health Commando"
Expertise dedicated to the well-being of the population. This is the credo of the new Director of Health, Dr. Youssouph Tine, whose appointment to this position was announced this Wednesday at the Council of Ministers meeting. This has earned him the nickname "public health commando" within the field. The medical colonel replaces Professor Ousmane Cissé. Until now, he was the regional director of health for Ziguinchor, where he improved infrastructure, strengthened equipment, modernized the vehicle fleet, and, most importantly, coordinated the establishment of a chemotherapy unit dedicated to gynecological cancers, serving the entire region, and set up a regional branch of the Emergency Medical Assistance Service. The list of his achievements is not exhaustive. In 2023, undoubtedly in recognition of his service to public health, he was awarded the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Lion by President Macky Sall.
2. Military Doctor
The new Director of Health honed his skills within the Armed Forces Health Service, where he rose through the ranks: Deputy Chief Medical Officer, then Chief Medical Officer of Military Zone 6 (Kolda), Chief Medical Officer of Zone 3 (Kaolack), and head of the Sports Battalion in Dakar. "In each position, he plans, organizes, coordinates, and ensures the medical support of the troops, both in operational contexts and in peacetime," the Ministry of Health reports.
3. Pure product of the national education system
Dr. Youssouph Tine completed all his studies in Senegal. A true product of the national education system, he earned his Baccalaureate (Bac C) in 2000 from the Thierno Seydou Nourou Tall High School. He received his State Doctorate in 2008 and a Diploma of Specialized Studies in 2018 from the Institute of Health and Development at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD). "He further enhanced his expertise with a Master's degree in Epidemiology in 2024 from the same institute," the Ministry of Health noted. And, as if to give back to the national education system, the new Director of Health has been teaching at Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor since the 2021-2022 academic year.
