Drame à la MAC de Mbour : un détenu décède, vive tension entre prisonniers et gardes pénitentiaires
Tensions flared at the Mbour Detention and Correctional Center (MAC). An inmate, who suddenly fell ill around 3:00 AM yesterday, reportedly tried to go to the prison infirmary for treatment. According to several prisoner accounts, the guard on duty told him he was "not seriously ill and was faking it," thus preventing him from receiving immediate medical care.
Shortly afterward, the inmate's health reportedly deteriorated sharply until his death. News of his death sparked outrage among the other inmates, who denounced negligence in the medical care provided to their fellow prisoner.
The situation quickly escalated into a violent altercation between inmates and guards, plunging the prison into turmoil. Cries of protest rang out in several sections of the prison.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the prefectural authority went to the prison to try to ease tensions and restore calm. After several tense moments, the situation was finally brought under control.
The body of the deceased inmate, who was believed to be from Kaolack, was taken to Grand Mbour Hospital for medical examinations.
The exact circumstances of this death remain unclear, while inmates continue to demand clarification on the conditions of medical care within the prison.
