Industries extractives : La Chambre des mines plaide pour des solutions concertées
In order to preserve industrial activity and safeguard jobs, the Chamber of Mines of Senegal (CMDS) calls for a strengthened dialogue between the State and private actors.
In a statement received by Seneweb this Friday, March 13, 2026, the organization believes that consultation is essential in the face of the difficulties that some strategic companies are experiencing.
Following closely the difficulties encountered by several industrial companies, particularly cement plants and the Chemical Industries of Senegal (ICS), considered key players in industrial development, the Chamber of Mines emphasizes the need for constructive dialogue between public authorities and the private sector. It particularly advocates for concerted solutions to secure investments.
Furthermore, CMDS expresses its solidarity with the mining company Grande Côte Opérations (GCO), a subsidiary of the Eramet group, following the fire that occurred at its operating site.
As a reminder, the Senegalese government has taken precautionary measures, freezing ICS's accounts and compelling them to pay what they owe the state. The announcement was made yesterday by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko at a press conference.
