Ziguinchor : Un taximan arrêté par la police avec plus de 6 kg de chanvre indien
Officers from the Ziguinchor central police station's investigation unit arrested an individual in possession of over 6 kg of marijuana during a security operation on the night of March 12-13, 2026. The suspect is 26-year-old taxi driver S. Mendy, residing in the Kénia neighborhood.
According to information gathered, the operation followed an operational intelligence report indicating heavy drug trafficking in this outlying neighborhood of Ziguinchor. Police then set up a surveillance operation to monitor the movements of certain suspected individuals.
This surveillance allowed investigators to arrest S. Mendy in his room. The search led to the discovery of 6 kg of cannabis, divided into one-kilo blocks, as well as 97 packets of the same drug, according to Seneweb sources. Briefly questioned by investigators, he stated that he had bought the drugs from an individual residing in Bignona, with the intention of reselling them.
The seized cannabis was confiscated, and S. Mendy was taken into custody at the central police station. The public prosecutor's office has been informed of the case, and an investigation is underway to identify any accomplices and dismantle the supply network.
