Affaire Kemi Seba: 250 000 rands pour traverser un fleuve, les détails de sa fuite ratée vers le Zimbabwe
Kemi Seba is no longer free to move about. The activist was arrested in South Africa on Monday, April 13, 2026, during an operation by the Hawks (the police unit tasked with investigating organized crime). The president of the NGO Urgences panafricanistes was accompanied by his son, Khonsou Seba Capo-Chichi, 18, and François van der Merwe.
An attempt to enter Zimbabwe illegally?
According to Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale, François van der Merwe is suspected of acting as an intermediary. Reports indicate he received approximately 250,000 rand (around 8,200,000 FCFA) to help Kemi Seba and his son cross the Limpopo River into Zimbabwe. Their ultimate goal was reportedly to reach Europe afterward.
Court appearance and extradition proceedings
The three men appeared yesterday, Wednesday, April 15, before the Brooklyn Magistrates' Court (a residential suburb of Pretoria). The case was adjourned until April 20, 2026.
Extradition proceedings are already underway. Kemi Seba is the subject of an international arrest warrant** issued by the Beninese justice system.
