Afrique du Sud : violences contre les noirs, honte contre une fraternité trahie (Boubacar Séye)

In an atmosphere of recurring violence and increasingly normalized xenophobia, Africans are becoming targets of other Africans in South Africa. Looting, assaults, humiliation, and daily fear paint an alarming picture, often under the bewildered gaze of the authorities. This disturbing trend challenges the continent's conscience: how long will Africa continue to turn against itself?

South Africa, once a symbol of resistance against apartheid and of democratic hope, now seems trapped by its own contradictions. In several urban and outlying areas, tensions regularly erupt, fueled by poverty, mass unemployment, and social anger that too often transforms into rejection of African foreigners.

Businesses are attacked, lives are turned upside down, and families live in constant insecurity. The victims, who come from other countries on the continent, describe a daily life filled with fear, stigmatization, forced evictions, and sometimes extreme violence.

Gradually, a stark reality is emerging: xenophobia is no longer an isolated incident; it has become an entrenched cycle. But beyond the shock of images and narratives, a fundamental question arises: how can a continent that champions African unity allow such internal divisions to fester?

South Africa, a major economic power, bears a particular responsibility in preserving African cohesion and respect for human dignity.

Despite repeated appeals, institutional responses still appear insufficient given the scale of the phenomenon. Meanwhile, thousands of Africans live in anguish, caught between the hope of a better future and a reality that has become hostile.

This situation can no longer be reduced to mere isolated incidents. It calls for a firm political response, continental mobilization and concrete African solidarity, beyond speeches and declarations of intent.

Because ultimately, one truth remains undeniable: on African soil, the dignity of an African should never be called into question.
