Au Maroc, l’UM6P pense et structure l’avenir de l’Afrique

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), whose first campus was inaugurated in 2017, is already a leading university institution on the continent and harbors ambitions that extend far beyond. Conceived as an example of the Kingdom of Morocco's, and Africa's broader capacity to establish itself permanently at the highest level of global academic competition, UM6P is accelerating its momentum in service of African youth and their future influence.

Excellence as the only ambition

Whether on the Rabat campus, focused on social sciences, or the Ben Guerir campus, primarily dedicated to the "hard sciences," a single goal unites these institutions: to offer African students academic pathways of excellence, aiming to train and cultivate the continent's future elites, all of whom will shape its future. The first results were quick to emerge. In the latest Times Higher Education rankings , UM6P entered the world's Top 400, becoming the leading Moroccan and North African university, as well as one of the few African institutions to achieve this level among more than 2,000 evaluated establishments.

To achieve such remarkable results, UM6P has developed unique capabilities, both in terms of infrastructure and in terms of supervision and research capacity. It is no coincidence that the last international conference, the UJALA Policy Conference, held on the Rabat campus on January 12, 2026, welcomed Esther Duflo, Nobel laureate for her work on poverty alleviation. She presented the results of surveys on various agricultural techniques, tested in real-world conditions in sub-Saharan Africa, in which several UM6P researchers directly participated. The objective of the UJALA Policy Conference , "To bring together research, public policy, and field practice for an evidence-based agricultural future," perfectly encapsulates UM6P's approach. It is through research, experimentation, and educational collaboration that Africa will be able to develop its own models of development, adapted to its specific characteristics.

An inclusive future focused on Africa

Far from being limited to Moroccan borders, UM6P caters to young Africans from all backgrounds who wish to pursue university studies to the highest international standards. Each program, whether taught within the College of Engineering & Architecture , the College of Computing , the College of Health Sciences, the Africa Business School , or the School of Collective Intelligence, admits students selected solely on the basis of their academic level, following a review of their application and a competitive selection process.

This approach promotes genuine equality of opportunity, as 70% of UM6P students receive scholarships. These scholarships, most of which cover the full tuition fees of the students concerned, are awarded by the Ibn Rochd Foundation , which is affiliated with UM6P. Social background is therefore not a selection criterion, and a stroll through the campuses is enough to confirm this, as you will quickly encounter students from diverse backgrounds and from all over Africa, sharing their experiences.

The Digital Farming School in Yamoussoukro, a testament to UM6P's commitment to Africa

While UM6P has campuses in several cities renowned for attracting talent, such as Paris, Montreal, and New York, the university is now extending its reach to Africa and will inaugurate a Digital Farming School in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, in early 2026. Developed in collaboration with the Félix Houphouët-Boigny National Polytechnic Institute (INPHB) , this school will be the first of its kind in West Africa and will aim to train young Africans in the agriculture of tomorrow, ensuring it is productive, resilient, sustainable, and supported by new technologies.

This new step confirms UM6P's commitment to training in Africa, by Africa and for Africa, in order to transform the continent's sovereign ambitions into a reality that is being built now and for future generations.
