Audience au palais : Abdoul Mbaye détaille ses échanges avec le président Diomaye Faye
Received this Thursday at the Palace of the Republic by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, former Prime Minister Abdoul Mbaye gave the main points of his interview with the Head of State.
This meeting comes a few minutes after the one granted to Cheikh Hadjibou Soumaré, as part of the consultations undertaken by the Senegalese president with former Prime Ministers.
Upon leaving the hearing, Abdoul Mbaye praised the initiative, which he deemed necessary in the country's current context. "Frankly, Senegal needs this," he told lesoleil.sn , adding that dialogue between political leaders and former officials can contribute to strengthening national stability.
The former head of government indicated that he had discussed five major issues with the president: the economy, public finances, the budget, regional security — particularly the situation in Mali — as well as political reforms.
On this last point, he claims to have insisted on the need to respect the commitments made during the opposition, in particular those related to the reform of the political system and the electoral code.
Although he left political life a year ago, Abdoul Mbaye says he observes with satisfaction President Diomaye Faye's stated commitment to consolidating Senegalese democracy. According to him, this conciliatory approach is essential to restoring confidence, reducing political tensions, and creating an environment conducive to economic recovery.
A former banker turned politician, Abdoul Mbaye led the first government of the Macky Sall era between April 2012 and September 2013. He then founded his party, the Alliance for Citizenship and Labor (ACT), in 2016, before retiring permanently from the political scene in 2025.
