A family tragedy of unprecedented violence occurred on the afternoon of Monday, March 9, 2026, in Matoto Déviation, in the Matoto district of Conakry. A young man is accused of killing his stepmother with a knife.

According to testimonies gathered on site, the suspect, identified as Mamadou Dian Sidibé, allegedly inflicted a fatal stab wound on the victim, a woman in her fifties.

A suspect with a disturbing psychological profile

According to multiple sources, the young man, a graduate but unemployed for several years, had recently shown signs of mental health issues. Residents of the neighborhood say his behavior had become increasingly erratic and threatening.

“In recent days, he had been exhibiting mental health issues. He was even assaulting children in the neighborhood. Today, we were informed that a tragedy had just occurred. To our great surprise, we found the elderly woman lying on the ground and him with the knife in his hand,” a neighbor testified. He added that the crowd had to intervene to subdue the suspect before taking him to the police station to prevent a lynching or another attack. It also appears that the suspect had purchased the murder weapon himself shortly before the incident.

A macabre "ritual" before the act?

Some witnesses report a disturbing event that allegedly preceded the murder: that morning, the young man reportedly slaughtered a sheep in the neighborhood. A few hours later, he attacked his stepmother. These details, while requiring official verification, are central to the investigation launched by the authorities.

Alerted by local residents, security forces quickly deployed to the scene to secure the area and prevent any disturbances. The suspect was taken into custody for questioning.
