Egypte: un milliard d’euros de l’UE pour soutenir l’économie

Egypt will receive a payment of one billion euros from the European Union (EU), scheduled for Thursday, January 15, 2026, under the Macroeconomic Support and Budgetary Support Mechanism (MFA), Egyptian Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat announced on Tuesday.

The announcement of the disbursement by the EU of support to Egypt through the MFA follows the implementation of measures under the National Structural Reform Programme, Minister Al-Mashat said at a joint press conference with Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), held Tuesday, January 13 in Cairo.

"The government has implemented 16 new economic and structural measures as part of the first tranche of the second phase of the Macroeconomic Support and Budget Support Mechanism, thus paving the way for the disbursement of this tranche," the minister said, stressing that these reforms aim to strengthen macroeconomic stability, improve public financial management and support sustainable economic development.

In total, "38 measures have been implemented to date within the framework of the National Structural Reform Programme, in the context of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU. These reforms include 22 measures from the first phase, the disbursement of which took place in January 2025 for an amount of one billion euros, as well as 16 measures from the tranche whose disbursement is scheduled for the end of this week," added Rania Al-Mashat.

The MFA includes a total funding of five billion euros, one tranche of which was paid in January 2025, while another will be paid in January 2026.

According to Rania Al-Mashat, the three billion euros will be disbursed in two installments during 2026, after the completion of the remaining measures out of the 100 agreed.

"This mechanism is part of efforts to provide concessional and less expensive financing alternatives than those available on international markets, in order to support the state budget, expand the budgetary margin dedicated to development projects and achieve the objectives of the national vision for comprehensive development," said Rania Al-Mashat.
