Escalade militaire entre les États-Unis et l'Iran : L’Union africaine appelle « à une désescalade urgente »
The African Union Commission (AU) has expressed its deep concern over the military escalation between the United States and Iran. In a statement released today, Chairman Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was "deeply concerned by the military strikes carried out by the United States in coordination with Israeli forces against targets in the Islamic Republic of Iran."
"This escalation marks a serious intensification of hostilities in the Middle East. The President calls for restraint, urgent de-escalation and sustained dialogue, stressing that all parties must act fully in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations in order to preserve international peace and security," he added.
Thus, "the President warns that a further escalation risks exacerbating global instability, with serious consequences for energy markets, food security and economic resilience, particularly in Africa, where conflicts and economic pressures remain acute."
"He urges all relevant actors to prioritize diplomatic engagement, including ongoing international mediation efforts facilitated by the Sultanate of Oman, in order to prevent further deterioration and preserve the rules-based international order. H.E. Youssouf reaffirms that lasting peace can only be achieved through diplomacy, not force," the AU Commission stated.
