États-Unis – Union africaine : discussions à Addis-Abeba
Relations between the United States and the African Union were the focus of a meeting held in Addis Ababa between US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
Following their discussions, the two officials emphasized the importance of the economic and strategic partnership between Washington and the African continent, while acknowledging the existence of certain concerns on the African side.
The United States reiterated its interest in a stable and prosperous Africa, highlighting the numerous economic and trade opportunities offered by the continent. Washington also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in investment and development.
For his part, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission expressed concerns about certain recent decisions by the US administration, particularly regarding visa restrictions and guidelines related to peace policies. He nevertheless emphasized the interdependence between the two partners in a globalized world.
Mahmoud Ali Youssouf reaffirmed the African Union's willingness to continue collaboration with the United States, describing this relationship as a strategic partnership based on mutual interests: African resources and markets on one side, and American expertise, technology and investment on the other.
