Finale Maroc - Sénégal : Achraf Hakimi tacle le Sénégal et réclame la victoire au TAS
While the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision is still pending following the appeal by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), Morocco's captain, Achraf Hakimi, has taken a swipe at Senegal. Interviewed by Movistar on the sidelines of PSG's 2-0 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-final, the right-back declared that Morocco should be awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title by the CAS.
"We are currently assessing the situation and we hope that a decision will be made in the interest of football and Africa. I hope we can win, because we deserve it and because we cannot leave a playing field like this," Hakimi told the Spanish channel.
Achraf Hakimi also addressed his unsportsmanlike conduct (along with that of his teammates and the stewards) during the final against Senegal. "It's a difficult period, marked by tensions on the pitch. I'm not proud of the image we projected with those towels. Despite that, the team performed well on the field. We respect our opponents and the competition," he attempted to explain.
This statement sounds like an attempt to put pressure on the CAS, but it's almost a lost cause. Senegal's appeal, based on the referee's irrevocable decision to continue the match to its conclusion, as stipulated in Article 5 of the IFAB, as well as the procedural flaw involving the presence of the president of the Tunisian Football Federation, Moez Nasri (denounced by CAF president Patrice Motsepe himself in a press conference), has a good chance of succeeding by reinstating the on-field verdict and confirming the 1-0 victory of the Lions of Teranga.
