Guinée : L’incroyable calvaire des élèves de Bensery, assis à même le sol sous un hangar
In Bensery, an isolated village in the sub-prefecture of Kouratongo, education takes place in particularly precarious conditions. Here, there are no school buildings or classrooms. Students attend classes under a makeshift shelter, sitting on the bare ground or on improvised supports.
In this rural area of the Labé region, access to education remains a real challenge. Yet, the children's desire to learn is undeniable. Every day, they go to this rudimentary site with their notebooks and slates, driven by the desire to study despite the obstacles.
Faced with a lack of infrastructure, the residents had to organize themselves. A makeshift shelter was erected to serve as a classroom, but it remains far too small to accommodate all the students.
"We have children of school age, but no means to build a proper structure," laments a resident, who appeals to the authorities and people of goodwill to come to the aid of the locality.
On site, the sole teacher is trying to maintain educational activities under these difficult conditions. He is pleading for the urgent construction of a school with at least three classrooms and an office for the administration.
Despite everything, the students are showing remarkable courage. Exposed to sun, rain, and wind, they continue to attend classes with determination. "We have supplies, but no school," they say, calling for an improvement in their learning conditions.
A total of 41 students are enrolled, the majority of whom are girls. This figure demonstrates families' interest in education, despite the glaring lack of infrastructure.
The situation in Bensery highlights the persistent inequalities in access to education in Guinea, particularly in rural areas. For the residents, the urgency is clear: to provide the community with a proper school so that children have the same opportunities for success as elsewhere in the country.
