CONAKRY – Guinea's electoral calendar has undergone a slight adjustment. In a decree published on April 10, 2026, the transitional president, General Mamadi Doumbouya, announced the postponement of the legislative and municipal elections, initially scheduled for May 24, 2026.

According to the official text, these elections will now be held on May 31, 2026, a postponement of one week. This decision is accompanied by strict regulations governing election campaigns and a reminder of the rules regarding political communication.

Following this, a new timetable was established. The campaign for the parliamentary elections will open on May 1, 2026 at 00:00 and end on May 28, 2026 at 23:59. The campaign for the municipal elections will begin later, on May 11, 2026 at 00:00, and end on the same date, May 28.

The decree emphasizes strict adherence to these timeframes. It is formally forbidden to conduct any campaign activity outside of the established deadlines. Authorities also reiterate that all political demonstrations must strictly comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Furthermore, particular attention is paid to fairness in the handling of information. The High Authority for Communication is responsible for ensuring respect for the principle of equality between candidates in public and private media, particularly with regard to the broadcasting and commentary related to campaign activities.

The implementation of these provisions will involve several institutions, including the ministries in charge of Territorial Administration, Security and Defense, as well as the relevant electoral bodies.

Through this readjustment, the authorities intend to guarantee better organization of the polls and ensure an electoral process that complies with established rules.
